Designing an Effective Logo
An effective logo design is both persuasive and informative in one. It should always give an excellent first impression of your company. After all, your logo is capable of gaining immediate customer recognition and even helps to promote a positive business image.
Every day of our lives we encounter hundreds and thousands of logos. So what makes some more memorable than others and what should you consider when designing your logo?
- Consider what your company does and who you main audience is. You logo should appeal to those types of people and give a meaningful impression of what your company is about.
- Make sure that you logo looks professional. Ask yourself if the images have a nice flow between them or do they look as if they are just a mess of elements pasted together.
- It is important so that your customers associate your logo with your business every time they see it. Repetition of similar design elements can help people remember your logo so next time they have a need for a product or service you offer they will think of you.
- Keep in mind that your logo should be scalable, in other words it should look the same quality on anything it is printed on, whether it be a business card, your website, or a huge banner.
- Your logo should be consistent throughout all your materials. So for example if you already have a company logo that you use on stationary, you will probably want to use the same logo on your website.
- Think about the colours used in your logo. Will it look good on other background colours? Would it look good in black and white or greyscale?
- If you have just established a new business consider if your logo would it be suitable for other items you may want to print it on, for example stationary, shirts, or banners.
- Is in not recommended to use elements that may go out of date or fashion. This will ensure your logo doesn’t have to be redesigned over time and your investment will be long lasting.
- Your logo should be unique and stand out from the crowd. Try to avoid commonly used symbols so that your logo doesn’t look like everyone else’s.
- If your logo includes your business name then choose a font that is easily readable.
